TED conference

The short version: He’s pretty much right on – but he is definitely going to offend a lot of zealots.

I’ve seen his stuff before (though I’ve actually read a lot more out of his rather besieged ex-sex-addict blogging partner, Hugo Schwyzer.) This guy knows what he is talking about – they both do – and he is refreshingly pragmatic and shame/judgment-free.

Contrary to the rantings of so many, the problem is not the toxic evils of seeing a naked woman – it is the online, high speed, constantly varied and instant nature of this erotic addiction loop which causes the associated neurochemical alterations and the resulting withdrawals from love and intimacy to create the disintegration of a life we see from erotic addictions.

The effects he is reporting: I see them all every day. Many present at such an extreme level it looks like a personality disorder – and ending the addiction causes exactly the reversal he is finding. The time frames he is seeing, however, are way too optimistic and only possible with pretty much-locking guys away in a treatment center to do their research studies (Which then produces unsustainable results) and usually not even then.

And the religiously offensive irony of it – well, there are two of them actually:

(1). Apparently a standing Playboy mag subscription actually leaves your erection standing proud – but an online Playboy photo archive will wilt it… 😉

(2). They couldn’t find a test group who did NOT compulsively use erotic materials to study – not even among the churched…
